Homework
HOMEWORK
In order to learn, students must have enough practice time to commit facts or skills to memory. There is seldom enough practice time at school to gain retention and mastery. Homework will be a regular part of FBCA’s expectations for a student. Work assigned at school, to be completed at school, will be taken home if not done during school hours. Time spent on this “unfinished” work may increase homework time.
REQUESTS FOR HOMEWORK
Parents should notify the school office no later than 12 noon that they would like to pick up homework at the end of the day. This allows the teacher time to pull together the homework without taking time from instruction. Students are required to complete work missed due to absence. Homework (work that is intended to be done at home) will not normally be assigned on Wednesday (many churches have Wednesday evening services). Homework will be given out for no more than five days in advance. When all of this work is completed and returned to the teacher, an additional five day’s work can be requested.
When children miss school, they will have two days for every day absent to turn in the make-up work. For example, a child that misses two days of school will have up to four days to turn in all assignments from the two days missed. After the “two days for each missed” is over, the work can be completed, but will not affect the child’s grade of zero for missing assignments.
LATE WORK
Children will have one extra day to turn in incomplete work for a grade. After that, it is recommended that the child complete the work for the learning value, but completion will not improve the grade of zero.
